Chomonkyo Gorge“Kunkunodaichi”Roadside Rest Stop

This Roadside Rest Stop is located at the entrance to Chomonkyo Gorge, a designated National Site of Scenic Beauty, on National Route 9 in the Ato area of Yamaguchi City in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
The Roadside Rest Stop has many visitors who come to enjoy the breathtakingly beautiful scenery of the Chomonkyo Gorge as well as see the SL Yamaguchi-go Steam Locomotive.
In addition, the Ato region produces many delicious specialty products including rice, Ato Wagyu beef, tomatoes, apples, pears, and honey.
You can enjoy the delicious foods of Ato at the Chomonkyo Restaurant or the Ato-no-Megumi direct sales store.

Chomonkyo Gorge, a designated National Site of Scenic Beauty

This gorge straddles Yamaguchi City and Hagi City.
The area is famous for its richly colored autumnal leaves, and many people visit during the autumn-foliage-viewing season. There is an approx. 5.1 km long walking path as far as Kawakami in Hagi City where visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll while viewing the magnificent gorge and autumnal leaves.
In summer, you can enjoy freshly caught ayu (sweetfish) from the clear water of Abugawa River which is the major attraction sport for the people feel a cool breeze.

This Roadside Rest Stop is located in Yamaguchi Prefecture on National Route 9, approx. 20 minutes by car from the Yamaguchi Prefectural Office.
The Roadside Rest Stop is located in about 3 minutes from the Chomonkyo Gorge walking path.

Moreover, the surrounding area has many sights for visitors to enjoy, including the Tokusa Hachimangu Shrine (a famous spot for viewing weeping cherry tree blossoms), Ganjoju Onsen hot springs, and tourism orchards where you can enjoy picking apples, pears, or grapes.Please come and enjoy!
